After what seems like years, my book Toys to Tools: Connecting Student Cell Phones to Education has been released today. Published by ISTE. I started writing this book two years ago (October 2006), there have been many revisions since. I look forward to hearing feedback.

After what seems like years, my book Toys to Tools: Connecting Student Cell Phones to Education has been released today. Published by ISTE. I started writing this book two years ago (October 2006), there have been many revisions since. I look forward to hearing feedback.
I submitted my order and can't wait to read it! I also sent it to my anti-cell phone principal. I think she make end up getting it as a Christmas present from her "favorite" prodding teacher.

ReplyDeleteGiven the tight, tight budgets in most school districts, and given that most students have cell phones, I'm ordering your book - in hopes that obsolete classroom computers will no longer be an obstacle to connecting students to online learning communities and best practices.
Liz, we were just mentioning your new book in our MI-LIFE training at the Kalamazoo RESA during the cell phone part of our session on technology trends for administrators. As I write this, they are SMSing queries to Google on their cell phones! Congratulations on its publication!

ReplyDeleteI read your book. It is really helpful. While it is structured for K-12 I teach at the collegiate level and have found many of your ideas very useful. I try to use a lot of innovative technologies in the classroom and am fascinated with using the cell phone to engage students. I will be teaching mobile technology to other professors for flex week and wanted to thank you for this blog and book - it has been very helpful.
ReplyDeletei am a senior in high school trying to prove that you can use cell phones as a teaching tool instead of a hindrance> i am doing a project for my senior project to prove that teachers as a whole should embrace technology instead of " toss it on the back burner". i believe that kids today learn differently than the teachers that teach us did. i was wondering if i could get a general idea from you about your veiw on the subject.

ReplyDeleteYou are welcome to use any of my blog posts as "evidence" for your research project. In general I believe that we are living in a 21st century global mobile world. Students need to learn to use their mobile devices in productive ways that will help them in the future workforce. Students do not see their cell phones as learning tools rather as toys. Schools have an opportunity to change this.
